Samsung is planning to begin production of new MicroLED TVs in May with lowered price tags, TheElec has learned.
The company’s first 110-inch MicroLED launched last year had a price tag of 170 million won.
But Samsung is planning to lower this by around 40% to 100 million won for its new 89-inch and 101-inch models that will go into production in May, sources said.
The models were displayed during CES 2022 earlier this year __ the company is also planning to launch an 114-inch model at a later date.
Samsung has set the price of 89-inch model at US$80,000 and the 114-inch model at US$100,000, sources said.
The pricing for the 101-inch model is yet to be finalized, they said.
All three sizes __ 89-inch, 101-inch and 114-inch models __ will use low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin-film transistors (TFT).
Samsung had previously used printed circuit boards for the 110-inch model.
Use of LTPS TFT was to offer 4K (3840x2160) resolution even at a smaller screen size as the technology allows for the control of individual circuits.
The transistors, which are 12.7-inch in size, are being supplied by AUO.
