Multi award-winning flagship bulb is winner for 2023 in Auto Express’ Bulb mega test

Suresnes, France – January 2023 – Philips RacingVision GT200 – the top-of-the-line halogen performance bulb in the Philips automotive lighting range – has taken top honors in Auto Express’ bulb mega-test for 2023.

Up to 200% brighter lights for a safe drive!

This is just the latest accolade for the bar-raising Philips RacingVision GT200 halogen bulb has received since its introduction in the Autumn of 2020.

The Philips RacingVision GT200, which offers up to +200% brighter light than the industry standard[1], has already been judged “Best of Test” in Auto Plus’ group headlamp test and has been named a “Recommended Buy” in the previous Auto Express bulb test as well as being Highly Commended in Auto Express’ Product Awards in both 2021 and 2022.

n awarding the Philips RacingVision GT200 the coveted “Best Buy” status, Auto Express reported that our bulb had scored the highest Figure of Merit (the combined measurement of light at both 50m and 75m on low beam) by some 10% compared to any of its competitors. Auto Express also, for the first time, included price of purchase as a factor in its assessment and concluded that Philips RacingVision GT200 was “a winning combination.”[2]

Auto Express has long acknowledged that Philips’ automotive products have pioneered technological advances in the automotive lighting sector. The Philips name is on almost every major innovation in automotive lighting over the last hundred years: halogen bulbs, high-performance halogen bulbs, HID Xenon lighting, long-life halogen, and most recently, LED lighting. This year, however, the UK industry’s most respected bulb test also noted the consistency of product quality matching between each of the pair of bulbs tested.

As a leading Original Equipment (OE) supplier to vehicle manufacturers around the world, this consistency of light and color is a standard we hold ourselves to. Lumileds factories produce Philips’ halogen and xenon bulbs for the aftermarket on the same production lines – and to the same exacting quality standards – as their OE bulbs. Each product is checked more than 30 times before door – our PPM[3] score is best-in-class.

Brighter by design

The Philips RacingVision GT200 delivers the super-bright visibility of a rally bulb in a format drivers can safely and legally use on public roads – its optimized bulb design offers higher luminance for a better view of the road ahead. With its ultra-performance beam reaching a full 80 meters further than the minimum length[4], Philips RacingVision GT200 bulbs allow drivers to see more of the road ahead. This helps them to spot potential hazards sooner, react faster, and position their car more accurately on the road.

All in all, the result is a safer and more satisfying driving experience.

The technology behind Philips RacingVision GT200 ensures that it remains at the cutting edge of halogen bulb design. Diamond Precision quartz glass ensures more light output within the regulation limits and guarantees a sharp cut-off line for the beam so as not to dazzle oncoming drivers – a factor that is critical to the overall inherent safety properties of any car headlamp bulb.

Philips RacingVision GT200 also delivers a brighter sweet spot to give more better light on the road where it counts – as is borne out by the Auto Express tests. In addition, quartz glass also gives greater thermal shock resistance, protecting the bulb’s lifespan, while enhanced UV absorption protects the headlight unit of the car itself.

“Auto Express’ tests are the benchmark in the UK and to have awarded Best Buy status for 2023 is further testament to Philips RacingVision GT200’s enduring quality,” says Richard Armstrong, Business Development Manager Automotive – UK and Ireland at Lumileds.

Technologically advanced Philips automotive lighting is renowned in the industry, and this has been so for over 100 years. Philips OE quality products are designed and developed following strict quality control processes (including applicable ISO standards. Philips RacingVision GT200 is compatible with car models of major brands, including Audi, BMW, Ford, GM, Toyota and Volkswagen. See the Philips Product Selector Guide for more information.
