We check out Samsung’s gigantic 600-inch The Wall MicroLED TV

News Source:

Samsung is the biggest TV brand in the world, and incidentally, it makes some of the world’s biggest TVs. The company’s giant displays are used in stores, advertising banners, and sports stadiums. The Wall is Samsung’s biggest TV, and it has been installed in the company’s flagship store in South Korea. During our recent visit to Seoul, South Korea, for the Galaxy Unpacked event, we got a chance to check out The Wall TV.

The company recently opened its flagship Samsung Store in Gangnam, Seoul, South Korea, to compete with Apple’s first store in the same neighborhood. We got a chance to check out the store, and we knew we had to see The Wall TV with our own eyes. The giant TV is installed on one of the store’s five floors. It measures a whopping 600 inches diagonally and uses 180 Micro LED modules. It has a resolution of 8,640 x 2,700 pixels. That’s slightly less than the standard 8K resolution.

Samsung’s amazing The Wall TV literally covers the whole wall

It is a huge TV and covers the whole wall, staying true to its name. Since it is made using Micro LED modules, it offers exceptional picture quality, too. Micro LED is a relatively new technology, and consumer-grade TVs based on this technology are not widely available yet. As you can see in the image below, various panels are installed so close to each other that it is hard to see the seams unless you get very close to the TV.

Micro LED is a self-emissive panel type, which means each pixel can create its own light and color, similar to OLED. So, it offers perfect blacks, deep colors, and almost perfect viewing angles like OLED TVs. However, it doesn’t suffer from the burn-in issues that OLED TVs face. In fact, Micro LED TVs are much brighter than OLED TVs and can sustain high brightness for a long time. Offering the best of both OLED and LCD.

Needless to say, we were left extremely impressed with The Wall TV after watching the 30-minute video sequence titled The New Me (Face Swap). The colors were impressive, and the brightness levels were terrific. Despite its fantastic picture quality, Micro LED TVs are far from becoming a common theme in homes.

Micro LED TVs are amazing, but they’re not ready for homes yet

Samsung hopes to launch smaller (and cheaper) Micro LED TVs. Samsung Display showcased a 50-inch Micro LED panel earlier this year, but no TV based on that model has been launched yet. As Micro LED is still in its nascent stages, it is not available in commonly found sizes, and the resolution for smaller-sized panels (like 55 inches) hasn’t reached 4K yet. Not to mention the exceedingly high prices of Micro LED TVs.

While Samsung has launched some Micro LED TVs, including the 89-inch version, they are so expensive that most of us can’t afford them. The 89-inch Micro LED TV Samsung recently launched in South Korea costs a whopping KRW 130 million (around $101,408). We hope we can see consumer-ready Micro LED TVs in the coming years.
