Recognizing the significant potential for energy savings, CIME embarked on a comprehensive project to replace all fluorescent lights with energy-efficient LED lights throughout their building in Karachi.
A fluorescent light typically uses around 80 watts, while an LED light uses only about 20 watts, offering significant energy savings. Over 6-8 months, around one thousand lights were systematically replaced from the ground floor to the top floor, carefully planned to avoid disrupting daily activities.
Switching to LED lighting has greatly reduced the building's energy use, cutting cost and shrinking the carbon footprint of the CIME building. This project goes beyond just saving energy—it's part of Aga Khan University's commitment to environmental sustainability.
The successful completion of the LED lighting installation at CIME showcases the university's dedication to sustainability and sets a benchmark for other institutions to follow in their pursuit of energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
