[News] Alibaba Reportedly to Unveil First Self-Developed AI Glasses This Week, Entering China’s Tech Showdown

News Source:

Xiaomi may have kicked things off with its first AI glasses in late June, but another Chinese tech giant is gearing up to enter the fray. According to 36Kr, Alibaba is set to unveil its first self-developed AI glasses this week—reportedly featuring a dual-chip setup powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 and China’s Bestechnic BES2800.

While the new device will likely includes standard AI glasses features like voice assistant, music, calls, real-time translation, and meeting transcription, the report suggests that what sets Alibaba’s product apart is its seamless integration with the company’s ecosystem—Amap for navigation, Alipay for payments, and Taobao for shopping.

Notably, the glasses will leverage Alibaba’s large language model Tongyi Qianwen (Qwen) for core AI capabilities, while Quark—an AI assistant built on Qwen’s advanced reasoning—will support specialized applications in education and healthcare, the report explains.

Alibaba’s upcoming AI glasses, as per 36Kr, are set to outpace the Ray-Ban Meta in hardware specs. The device will reportedly come in two versions: a display-free AI glasses model and a premium AI+AR version with a built-in display.

Alibaba’s first self-developed AI glasses marks the company’s first consumer-facing AI product since restructuring its AI-to-C business in late 2024, the report adds. As revealed by the report, the project is led by Song Gang, head of smart devices at Alibaba’s Intelligent Information Group. A former lead architect for Huawei’s flagship phones, Song brings extensive expertise spanning smartphones, XR, robotics, gaming devices, and more, the report highlights.
