Daktronics of Brookings, South Dakota, a recognized industry leader in digital display and control system technology, announced the launch of the new Galaxy® G7 electronic message center series, the next generation of the company’s Galaxy outdoor LED display platform. The new series introduces High Efficiency and High Brightness models while advancing Galaxy image-processing technology.
Introducing two models that address the differing demands of outdoor digital signage requirements of the market. High Efficiency models are designed to reduce power consumption, supporting applications where available power or operating costs are a key consideration. High Brightness models are designed for applications where maximum visibility and brightness take priority.
“Customers have been asking for both lower-power and higher-brightness display options,” said Ron Koerner, product manager at Daktronics. “Galaxy G7 gives customers an informed choice where they can select High Efficiency when power consumption and operating costs are the primary considerations, or High Brightness when increased visibility is the priority.”
High Efficiency configurations can reduce energy consumption by up to 56% compared with previous-generation displays, depending on the application, while supporting higher-resolution display options. For replacement projects, the lower-power models allow customers to move to a tighter pixel pitch while working within existing power constraints.
Unified Galaxy Platform
The Galaxy G7 series includes a new 4-millimeter high-resolution, high-brightness model as a standard offering, alongside 6-, 8- and 10-millimeter resolution options. These offerings provide a wide range of standard sizes to support a variety of applications and viewing distances.
Selected Galaxy G7 cabinet dimensions and design features are intended to simplify replacement of earlier Galaxy display generations, including certain GS6 installations. Final compatibility depends on the existing display, structure and site requirements.
“For sign companies, the significance of G7 is not limited to a new generation of hardware,” said Tom Quackenbush, market manager at Daktronics. “The expanded range of display options gives our partners more flexibility to address a customer’s requirements, site conditions, visibility parameters and available power. That flexibility is important for both new electronic message center projects and replacements of existing displays.”
Display Design and Operation
Galaxy G7 uses surface-mount LED technology in its 4-, 6-, 8- and 10-millimeter models. The display design incorporates high-contrast louvers, color-management capabilities and image-processing technology for outdoor readability and image presentation.
The series also incorporates intelligent thermal detection. Determined by display conditions, the ventilation fans operate as needed rather than running continuously. Whisper-quiet fan operation helps maintain performance while minimizing noise. Sealed components help protect display electronics from outdoor conditions, while signal redundancy is designed to support continued display communication.
Cabinet and component changes are intended to support installation across new and existing locations. Improved power efficiency may also help simplify retrofit projects by reducing infrastructure demands while supporting higher-resolution display options.
Behind every Galaxy G7 display is Venus Control Suite, Daktronics’ cloud-based content management software that gives customers full control over their content, from creation and scheduling to day-to-day management from any location. For customers looking to get up and running quickly, the Daktronics Media Kit provides a library of prepared digital media ready to deploy from day one.
