DuPont Displays Announces New OLED Materials

DuPont Displays Inc announced that it developed new OLED materials designed for coating process.

The OLED panel manufactured using DuPont Displays' new material

Among these new materials, a green light-emitting material has a luminance half-life of more than one million hours with an initial luminance of 1,000cd/m2, according to the company. This is equivalent to 100 or more years of continuous emission. The green light-emitting material has color coordinates of (0.26, 0.65) and a current efficiency of 25cd/A.

One of the blue light-emitting materials has a current efficiency of 6.0cd/A and a luminance half-life of 38,000 hours at 1,000cd/m2 initial luminance, with a color coordinates of (0.14, 0.12), according to the company. "It is one of the longest-life blue light-emitting materials that have ever been announced," DuPont Displays said.

Another material with color coordinates of (0.14, 0.08) for deeper blue emission has a current efficiency of 3.9cd/A and a luminance half-life of slightly less than 7,000 hours when measured with the initial luminance of 1,000cd/m2. "If the initial luminance is set at 200cd/m2, which is required for a display, the luminance half-life is calculated to be approximately 41,000 hours," DuPont Displays said.

The company is planning to present the details of the new materials at SID Display Week 2009, an academic conference that will run from May 31 to June 5, 2009, in Texas, the US.
