Lighting Science Group Corporation and Intellectual Ventures’ Global Good today announced a research agreement to collaborate on the development of next-generation light technologies for pest control. Based on Global Good’s photonic fence invention and Lighting Science’s light-control technology, the joint development effort will focus on field-ready prototypes that offer an environmentally-responsible alternative to chemical pesticides. Lighting Science plans to leverage this development effort to create a new company to bring highly efficient and effective pest control products for health, commercial and residential use around the world.

E series adopts ProLight’s patented High Thermal Eutectic Technology. The eutectic material that is commonly used is Au-Sn, the thermal conductivity is around 58W/mK, but ProLight have developed the high thermal dissipating eutectic material, which have thermal conductivity over 160W/mK. This unique eutectic can reduce heat resistance and drive LED by higher current to optimize lumens.

JOLED, a new OLED display company founded by Japanese electronic giants Sony, Panasonic and government affiliated Innovation Network Corporation of Japan (INCJ) has started operations in January 2015, according to a Nikkei BP report. OLED is a highly anticipated display material, due to its light weight and flexible properties. Yet, OLED displays have not been widely adopted because of its cost disadvantages compared to LCD panels.

This is the first part of Fairchild Semiconductor's five part blog series that will examine LED lighting trends and Fairchild solutions. LED lighting applications fall into three basic input power levels: low-power is less than or up to 20 Watts; mid-power is between 20 Watts and 50 Watts; and high-power is above 50 watts. In the real-world, applications do not always fit nicely in these three buckets, but these power levels align when considering LED driver solutions.
