Bridgelux and RD Leuchten win architecture and technology innovation award

German Publications AIT and XIA Honor the RD Micro LED Spot for Energy Efficiency and High Light Intensity.

Bridgelux Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of integrated, solid-state lighting solutions, together with RD Leuchten, a high quality lighting system developer in Switzerland, won accolades for its innovation in LED technology. The leading German architecture publications AIT and XIA in cooperation with Messe Frankfurt (Frankfurt Fair) have honored the RD Micro LED Spot and the Bridgelux RS Array with their annual Innovationspreis Architektur und Technik (Innovation Award in Architecture and Technology). The RD Micro LED Spot was recognized in the “Special Award” category.

“The RD Micro LED Spot was notable because of its high light intensity and extremely low rejected heat, or waste heat,” said Petra Stephan, editor at AIT Magazine. “The product can help to strongly reduce energy consumption. Even in highly illuminated rooms there is no special cooling necessary, and it represents a nice combination of modern technology and flexible design.”

The RD Micro LED Spot is a collaborative development between Bridgelux and RD Leuchten to meet the high light quality and energy efficiency requirements for retail lighting. The luminaire utilizes innovative LED Array technology provided by Bridgelux and the high quality lighting system developed by RD Leuchten. The RD Micro LED Spot, using a single Bridgelux RS Series LED Array, reduces energy consumption up to 50% while delivering the quality and quantity of light demanded by superior shopping environments—staying within the market requirement of a return on investment in less than two years.

“It’s a thrill to win this award and be recognized for our innovation. The award affirms our understanding of the needs of luminaire manufacturers, lighting designers and architects; the need for high quality light without compromise while aggressively driving down the cost of solid state lighting. It is also a great testament to our focus on delivering the products that are transforming the lighting industry,” said Bill Watkins, CEO, Bridgelux, Inc. “Now more than ever, our customers are seeking to improve on performance and energy efficiency that they just can’t get with traditional lighting technologies.”

The Bridgelux RS Array Series delivers high light output for applications including retail, street, wide area, high bay, and commercial lighting, replacing conventional light sources such as 35 to 70 Watt metal halide (HID) and high wattage compact fluorescent (CFL) lamps in luminaires. These arrays produce between 3100 and 4500 “hot” lumens, enabling clean and uniform lighting effects without pixilation and excellent beam control for precision lighting. In retail lighting installations, these arrays have delivered a return on investment of less than two years while delivering the high quality of light proven to positively influence product turnover and customer experience.
