In 4Q, AUO LED TV shipment may slow slightly but CMI may increase significantly

In 3Q10, AUO was the only profitable panel maker in Taiwan due to its leading shipments of LED-backlit TVs, in which LED-backlit TV panels accounted for 30% of its total TV panels. But look into 4Q, the company was expected to slow down result from vendors adjust LED-backlit TV shipment goals due to high product prices.

For Chimei Innolux (CMI) , in 3Q, the company revenues lost about NT$3.6 billion with an EPS of negative NT$0.80 dues to clearing out CCFL-backlit TV panels and lowered utilization rates. Looked into 4Q, it is expected that CMI would ship about 1.5 million LED-backlit TV panel, which made LED-backlit TV panels represented 15% of the company’s total TV panels at the end of 2010.

AUO expected LED-backlit TV's market share to reach 20% in 2010 and 50% in 2011. CMI expected to become an LED-backlit TV panel supplier of Sony in 2011. And CMI's LED-backlit TV panel shipment share was expected to reach 20-25% in 1Q11, which was estimated at around 2-3 million units, while AUO was expected to ship 3-4 million units.
