Salina to Made LED Replacement Project

Salina City Commissioners are considering about exploring the possibility of lights replacement in downtown Salina.

Commissioners were updated on the project, which is still in the conceptual stage, during a study session on Monday.

Philips lighting would provide LED lamp posts including a 10 year warranty in the downtown area.

The entire project would cost about $1.2 million. Salina Mayor Samantha Angell said that she would expect Salina Downtown Inc. to help fund the project. Officials believe that the project would eventually pay for itself, though, in energy savings. It's estimated that nearly $68,000 a year will be saved in utility costs. And Johnson Controls is handling the project.

The next step is for commissioners at a future meeting to formally approve a survey to begin the process.
