LED Lighting In TV/Broadcast, Video And Motion Pictures Market Forecast

ElectroniCast Consultants announced the release of a new market review and forecast of LED light panel/lamp fixtures, which are used in TV broadcast, motion pictures production/studio lighting as well as and professional videographers, in the United States.

LED lighting
is well accepted by the broadcast TV and videography industry sectors and is progressing in the motion picture/film industry sector for lighting effects and set lighting, mainly because of its flexibility.  A single light source can generate a great variety of colors.  Additionally, continuous cost/performance improvements driven by technological advancements are driving the LED lighting fixture market from a niche-only solution to a general use solution.

The Motion Picture industry segment is forecast to grow at the fastest pace in consumption value.  The Television Broadcast industry sector continues to struggle with across the board expenditure reduction, due mainly to the decline in advertisement revenue.  The professional Videographer sector, on a relative-basis, tends to use the smaller and the less expensive light panels/fixtures.

The market research study by ElectroniCast examined and analysis of the changing market dynamics for the major types of LED-based lighting fixtures, segmented by shape and size, such as: small and larger square/rectangle and small circular/ring/Fresnel-lamp types

According to ElectroniCast, the 12x12-inch (or larger) LED Panel category is forecast to capture the lead in relative market share of consumption value. The Circular/ Ring/ Fresnel fixture category, which includes fixtures with an outer diameter of 12-inches or larger, is forecast to eventually take the second-place position in market share.

In terms of volume (number of units), the smaller units will hold substantial market share during the forecast period; however, since their average selling price (ASP) is relatively low compared to the larger-sized units, they have a smaller market share in terms of value.

“There are tough technical challenges for LED-based solutions in the Motion Picture/Film sector in regards to color quality versus other established incumbent technology,” said Stephen Montgomery, president and principal analyst of LED Market Research at ElectroniCast Consultants. “However, over the next 2-3 years, ElectroniCast believes that the LED-based lighting concerns will be minimized and the value of the LED-based fixtures in the Motion Picture/Film application will nearly triple (3x) during the 2011-2018 forecast period,” he said.

According to the ElectroniCast study, use of LED professional production light panels/fixtures in the TV broadcast, motion picture/film and videographers in the United States is led by the motion picture industry sector with a projected 46% relative market share in 2012.
