LED Bulbs will be half of the Market Price in Delhiites

Last Friday, Power distribution company BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd (BRPL) has announced a scheme under which LED bulbs will be sold at R399 each against the market price of R700 to R800.  Therefore, LED bulbs will now be available to Delhiites at almost half the market price.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that her government will grant some concession in value added tax to promote the use of LED bulbs.

"The demand of power is going up by the day. It used to be 2,000 MW in the year 2000 and has risen to around 5,600 MW today. To conserve energy and restrict billing on electricity it is advisable to use LED bulbs," said Dikshit.

Delhi government too has been pushing for usage of LED bulbs in the city after finding it difficult to dispose off fused CFL bulbs.

Explaining the dynamics of the scheme, a BRPL official said that the scheme will be open to all Delhiites and not be restricted to their own customers.

"This initiative will break the price barrier and will make LEDs available to Delhiites at lower prices," said BRPL CEO Gopal Saxena.
