France to Close All Lights at Night from July Except for Champs-Elysees

According to the news Russian media reported on July 3, in this summer, many cities in Europe have closed lighting devices at night to save energy.

Since July 1, all shops, offices, public places, government agencies in France must turn off lighting equipments between 1:00 am to 7:00 am. As a result, the French government not only can save energy, but also can create a cleaner environment. Economists estimate that the new regulations will make annual savings of 200 million Euros for France, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 250,000 tons. The business violated laws and regulations will be fined, 750 Euros per night must be paid to turn on the lights at night.

Of course, not all places have to close the lighting devices at night. Workplaces providing services at night, such as cafes, restaurants, nightclubs, etc. are exceptions, which are the places to light up night life, such as the Champs-Elysees in France.

Germany has not yet conducted large-scale power savings, the German local government is still considering whether it is worth. However, the number of city turn off lights at night is increasing every day; currently, there are 10 cities in the rank.

Goslar, a small town of Lower Saxony, Germany, closing the street lights at midnight saves 100,000 Euros every year, which is one of the methods to reduce expenditure, supported by the local government.
