ROHM Develops New LED Driver to Achieve Less Power Consumption for LCD TV Panels

ROHM Co., Ltd. (Kyoto-based) developed a 4-wire LED driver for LCD TV panels, achieving significantly lower power consumption.

According to the available information and confirmation from relevant TV makers, the power consumption of backlight accounts for approximately 70% of the total power consumed by the LCD panel, therefore it has always been a major issue most manufacturers have focused. New products use original ROHM prides control circuit technology, achieved both high efficiency and low noise. The voltage level improved to 80V through the built-in MOSFET, the maximum LED current up to 250mA/ch, so that the product is suitable for a variety of panel sizes, and very helpful to alleviate burden for designers.

It is understood that the pre-process product production based on ROHM Hamamatsu Co., Ltd. (Hamamatsu, Japan), post-process production based on ROHM Electronics Philippines, Inc. (Philippines), plans to start selling sample in September 2013 (Sample Price: 200 yen), and begin the volume production from November 2013 by 200000pcs monthly. It is believed that LCD TV will consume less power and become more energy saving after this new LED driver is put into mass production.
