As Japan makes significant breakthroughs in agricultural LED lighting technology, the country’s largest agricultural trade show, International Agricultural Material & Technology Expo Tokyo (AGRITECH Japan) is attracting LED manufacturers to participate. In its third year, the agricultural technology, machinery, horticultural and fertilizer trade show will be hosted at Makuhari Messe from Oct. 9-10, 2013. Building upon last year’s success, the upcoming show organized by Reed Exhibitions Japan has nearly doubled in size to showcase products from 350 exhibitors.

Japan agricultural market trends
Information compiled by Reed Exhibitions Japan indicated Japan’s agricultural market's total value is about US$17.4 billion. The market for LED plant grow lights is expected to increase in Japan, due to rising trend of home vegetable gardening headed by real estate developers, according to a recent Sankei Biz report. Eyeing Japan and Asia’s agricultural lighting market, several LED lighting manufacturers have signed up to attend the show, such as LED plant grow light manufacturers Everest Trading Co., HIDDirect, GetSweet Inc., Living Farm Co. and others.

Past show results
The show has developed over the last three years to become one of the most influential agricultural exhibitions in Asia. In 2012, AGRITECH Japan attracted 181 exhibitors and 26,846 professional visitors from 47 countries and regions including China, Singapore, Taiwan, U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Brazil, Turkey and others. International visitors comprised of 4,456 retailers, 3,715 distributors, 4,119 manufacturers and 5,079 farmers. Organizers explained the decision behind its 2013 expansion to 350 exhibitors was due to positive responses from last year participants, and reported increasing numbers of new attendees each year.
“About 400 visitors came to our booth,” said a representative from Korean agricultural machinery manufacturer Kenwoo Tech. “We got 15 promising leads from contacts and expect sales to reach US$ 500,000.”
