Many new and innovative lighting designs have been displayed at this year’s 100% Design Show at Earl’s Court, London, reports The Register. Chief among the inventions is an LED light with a thin butterfly wing-style film – The Air – a circle of light that uses LED lights along its outside rim. Several products showcased at the show have just been made available in the UK.

3M’s The Air uses innovative design methods to make the best use of LED technology, with the LED lights illuminating a band of specially crafted materials that allow glare-free illumination. It is available in 3ft, 5ft and 7ft diameters. At the show, it is displayed through a dichroic film that changes colour depending on the angle at which you are viewing it. The dichroic film is inspired by butterfly wings, which have no pigment.
Designer Todd Bracher also displays his feature lamp system, Lightfalls. The lamp uses mirroring film with LED lighting and a lighting reflector. The mirror film is reportedly 90% reflective and allows the light from one module to affect adjacent modules. The 100% Design Show is the UK’s largest design trade event and is held as part of the London Design Festival at the end of September.
Lights 4 Living have celebrated the innovative new designs showcased at the 100% Design Show. A spokesperson from the company said:
