Running has become more popular with the rise of health awareness in the past few years. But it also poses problems to urban runners’ on-road safety. Runners are supposed to run at any time they desire, rather than being confined by the condition of daylight.
The startup Positively Human kicked off a Kickstarter campaign for their new product Million Mile Light, a bright LED flash light that is powered by human motion.
Inside the flash light sits a tiny kinetic engine that powers four bright 30 lumen LEDs that emit through lens that concentrates light enabling the runner to be seen from up to 200m away. That say, Million Mile Light does not need any battery replacements, while it’s engineered to burn up to 100,000 hours. So all the runner needs to do is to secure it on the provided waistband, wrist strap or ankle strap and go running.
The team has finalized the product after making 100 prototypes.
The light weight but powerful LED lights flashes when runners take strides. But what is worth mentioning is that the mechanism requires little usage attention. The kinetic battery relies on neodymium rare earth magnets, which shouldn’t be worn by pregnant people or with a pacemaker. It should also be kept 15cm away from any other electronic devices, including watches and fitness monitors.
Backers are encouraged to choose their favorite colors which could well be one of the two finalized color models.
Backers are invited to choose their favorite colors combinations. And the first edition of Million Mile Light will come in two different color options. The team has finalized the production but still need more fund.
Two 30 lumen LED lights are used for each Million Mile Light, enabling runners to be seen from a long distance.
Positively Human has acquired £30,541 (US$ 46,940) out of the pledged £35,000. The £12 early bird package will be delivered by Jan 2016.
