Hot Picks of the Week Nov. 23-27

Highlights this week:

  • Nichia revealed some of its future product plans for 2016 at a recent press conference held in Taipei, Taiwan. The Japanese company is still very focused on LED chip R&D, and plans to invest resources into niche lighting markets including UV LED and laser next year.
  • The Japanese government intends to phase out its incandescent and fluorescent lights by 2020 by amending its energy laws.
  • Epistar took another blow this year, after losing a three year legal battle against Boston University. Massachusetts jury decided the Taiwanese company had willfully infringed LED patents, and along with its clients Everlight and Lite-On have will potentially be fined US $13.7 million.
  • A lot of government streetlight proejcts have been observed this week mostly in North America.
