Japan Display Becomes Latest Bidder for Apple iPhone 8 OLED Panel Orders

Rumors of Apple’s intention to trade existing LCD display technology for the lighter and thinner OLED screens has been circulating awhile on the market, a recent report from Japanese newspaper Nikkan has named Japan Display as the latest contender for Apple’s iPhone 8 OLED panel orders.

Japan Display which invested massively in OLED production last year, is rumored to be in talks with Apple to secure its OLED display orders for a handset to be launched sometime in 2018, possibly the iPhone 8, International Business Times cited a Nikkan report.

To Japanese manufacturer has prepared to upgrade its OLED production capacity last year, and plans to initiate a prototype assembly line by Spring 2016. According to the report, Japan Display might be in a better position to acquire orders than other competitors at this moment.

Korean manufacturers Samsung and LG Display were also highlighted in previous market reports for showing interest in acquiring Apple iPhone 8 orders.

Apple has an investment amounting to $1.4 billion Japan Display plant aimed at manufacturing LCD displays for the iPhone, reported Reuters earlier.
