Hot Picks of the Week March 14-18

Highlights this week:

With the industry’s biggest biennial lighting event, Light+Building 2016 running for the whole week at Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Center in Germany, the show hosted by Messe Frankfurt has resulted in a deluge of new lighting product releases. To make things easier for readers, and those who were unable to attend the show, we’ll pick a few highlights.

Smart lighting remained the focus at this year’s show, LEDinside has seen a lot more developments in the smart lighting and control sector this year compared to previous shows. Smart lighting is becoming much more sophisticated, and leading manufacturers are forming partnerships with controller manufacturers, utility companies, and other platform providers to accelerate the introduction of smart lighting products in homes. During the lighting show week, Samsung, Philips, Acuity Brands and Gooee respectively announced new smart lighting partnerships.

LED chip manufacturers are also taking a more conservative approach this year, and seem to be trying to secure profits first. This can be seen in Samsung LEDs strategy at the Light+Building Show this year, where most of the product portfolios were from their existing lineup and main featured products. Lumileds recent launch of mid-power LED product portfolio also follows a similar logic. Material manufacturer Dow Corning is also following a similar route, but is looking into opportunities in niche UV LED lighting market applications.
