Samsung Wouldn’t Let You Get Away with Internet, Not Even When You are on a Surfboard

While the term “Internet of Things” and “connected technology” grows increasingly familiar, leading technology giants strive to find out the next “thing” to be connected. Some bet it on the smartwatch while some go for lighting. Samsung locks its eyes on surfboard recently, reported the Verge.
Samsung Brazil released a clip that features Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina and a sleek Samsung Galaxy Surfboard.
The surfboard looks exactly like others on the beach but it can be lit with LED display which is powered by embedded Samsung Galaxy S7.
Other than showing messages from fans and the coach of the surfer, the surfboard also feeds the surfer with critical data include real time condition of the sea, wind direction and frequency or height of waves. Coaches are allowed to send surfers comments to improve their technique.
But many, including the Next Web, doubt the necessity of an internet connected surfboard as the point of surfing is to engage with the waves and the winds. Would a surfer have the time and energy to keep an eye on the surfboard under his or her feet?
