OLED Display Shortage Might Delay Apple iPhone 8 Plans

News Source:

Limited supply of OLED displays in 2017 could cut short Apple’s plans of using the screen in its 2017 iPhones, reported Investor’s Business Daily.

Rosenblatt Securities analyst Jun Zhang brought the issue under the limelight recently.

Flexible OLED screened smartphones are rumored to be one of the biggest selling points for the rumored iPhone 8, but talks with component suppliers has led Zhang to cast a more conservative outlook for the rollout of OLED iPhones.

In a research report issued recently, Zhang projected Samsung’s OLED panel production capacity might fall short of supplying Apple.

Samsung is one of the top suppliers of small and mid-sized OLED displays, most made for its own smartphone consumption, such as the flagship Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Other display manufacturers are planning to ramp up manufacturing of OLED displays in 2017, but it will be unlikely prepared to meet Apple’s smartphone demands.
