China Electric, a leading Taiwanese LED luminaire manufacturer and owner of lighting brand TOA, announced it won the bid for three large scale LED streetlight projects in Taiwan this year totaling NT $400 million (US $12.84 million).
The LED manufacturer was listed as the top bidder for a streetlight replacement project in Chiayi County valuing more than NT $180 million on Aug. 11, 2016, and has clinched two other LED streetlight projects earlier this year.
In June, China Electric won a LED streetlight project being rolled out in Changhua County under the country’s mercury-vapor lamp phase out program. It also was awarded a streetlight conversion project in Yunlin County earlier this year.
The three projects combined have an estimated worth of NT $400 million, and will cover the replacement of 50,000 conventional streetlights with LEDs.
Originally a traditional luminaire manufacturer, China Electric, is a new entrant in government LED streetlight bids in Taiwan this year.
Earnings from the streetlight bids will be listed in China Electric’s fourth quarter revenue results, which it estimates will raise revenues in 2016 to exceed earnings from the same period last year.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) launched a program in 2014 to phase out mercury-vapor streetlights by the end of 2016, and has initiated streetlight installations.
