Osram Opto announced it will be appointing general LED lighting veteran Dr. Jiaping Shao as its new Solid State Lighting sales leader in China.

Shao, who has 17-years of experience under his belt in the general LED lighting industry was appointmented as the new head of sales for its solid state lighting (SSL) business in Greater China,

The appointment was immediately effective as of Sept. 15, 2016, and Shao will be directly reporting to Ting Li, Osram’s Vice President of Marketing for the Greater China region.

Shao previously held the role of General Manager of Sales at Cree’s branch in China.

He has been a major player in promoting LED industry development in China, having started in the industry since 1999. He has more than 10 years of experience in LED packaging, and has been a consultant for various prestigious LED organizations in the industry including China Solid State Lighting Alliance (CSA), China Association of Lighting Industry (CALI), China Illuminating Engineering Society (CIES), and Shanghai Optoelectronics Trade Association (SOTA). Furthermore, more than 30 papers he wrote on LED technology has been listed in academic Journal Papers (SCI/EI).

Shao received his doctorate degree in Optoelectronics from Beijing National Tsing Hua University, and is an expert in III-V Group GaN EPI-wafer material and semiconductor R&D (high power LED, laser diodes, semiconductor detectors and others). He later went on to complete his postdoc at Fudan University in 2014.
