Osram Reveals the Future of Entertainment Lighting at Prolight + Sound 2017 in Frankfurt

It would be difficult to imagine the entertainment sector without fascinating lighting effects and precision lighting from Osram. For years the company has been setting new standards in the entertainment sector. Together with its renowned brands – Claypaky and ADB – Osram offers lighting solutions to cover all requirements and is presenting the latest generation of entertainment lighting: at Prolight + Sound 2017.

Highlights include an innovative RGBW multi-chip LED module, brand new HMI STUDIO products, the 5th anniversary of the SIRIUS HRI family and a look at the future of show lighting with lasers. Osram subsidiary Claypaky is presenting two special new products: AXCOR Profile 900, the powerful LED profile spot and K-EYE HCR, a range of LED wash-lights that set a new benchmark for LED color changers.

Visitors to Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt from April 4 to 7, 2017 can see the innovative products and ready-to-use solutions from Osram close-up in Hall 3.0, booth E50. At the neighboring booth D45, Osram’s subsidiary Claypaky is showcasing its broad range of moving lights, color changers, projectors for buildings, and various effect lights. The Italian company is proving once again that it is the reference brand for professional lighting systems and showing that innovative and versatile spotlights are a central element in event staging.

“Our lighting solutions provide accents, create atmosphere and stir emotions. Lighting creates an aura of fascination, makes events speak to the emotions and leaves unforgettable impressions”, says Hans-Joachim Schwabe, CEO Specialty Lighting at Osram.

Osram expands its HMI portfolio

The HMI STUDIO series is making its debut at Prolight + Sound 2017. Osram has expanded its traditional lamp portfolio with these innovative HMI products which are perfectly tailored to the requirements of modern entertainment productions. With color temperatures of 3200 K and the special orange base which indicates UV-Stop (UVS) technology, there is no need for additional halogen spotlights. That means easier setup and handling as well as reduced costs in connection with storage, maintenance and transport of the lighting system.

The HMI DIGITAL series is also making an appearance at the fair. To meet the growing demands of the entertainment industry Osram has combined the familiar HMI UVS lamps and other single-ended HMI products under the new name of HMI DIGITAL. They offer flickerfree light with up to 100 lumen/watt and a color temperature of 6000 K. On display at the booth are the two new models, HMI DIGITAL 2500 W and HMI DIGITAL 4000 W with UVS which, like the HMI STUDIO products, will be available from summer 2017.

SplitStar S32 – the multi-chip LED module for spotlights with extremely high luminance

At the heart of the Osram booth is the SplitStar S32 LED module family which has been extended this year with a “Full White” version. Alongside the innovative RGBW multi-chip LED module which opens up a large number of applications and lighting versions with its different color options and combinations, and the “Cold White” version with a luminous flux of up to 20,000 lm, the “Full White” version features a freely tunable color temperature of 2700 to 7000 K and offers a consistently high color rendering index (CRI).

Here too, an LED high-current chip combination is used which this time comprises the colors red, green, blue and amber. All the S32 modules have a very low overall thermal resistance of 0.05 kelvin/watt (K/W) and thanks to the dense arrangement of the LED chips achieve very high luminance of up to 140 cd/mm² (“Cold White” version). All the versions generate a large amount of light from a small surface area.

In addition to optics designed specially for the S32, a driver and a solderless contact system from external solution partners will also be showcased at Prolight + Sound 2017.

SIRIUS HRI family celebrates its 5th anniversary

At its booth in Hall 3.0 Osram is also showcasing reflector lamps with particularly high luminance for moving heads – the SIRIUS HRI products have been an important part of the Osram portfolio for five years and are celebrating their anniversary at the fair.

On display are the 100 W and 440 W members of the family. The compact and lightweight design of the reflector lamps with ECGs makes them ideal for use in small free-moving multifunction spotlights. The very short arc of the SIRIUS HRIs provides high luminance and constant light output throughout their entire lives. SIRIUS HRIs are supplied as a complete system including electronic control gear.

Innovative PHASER technology from Osram

Visitors to the Osram booth can also take a look into the future of entertainment lighting. PHASER (a compound word made from PHOSPHOR and LASER) brings innovative laser technology to entertainment lighting and offers impressive luminance, extremely long life, tunable color temperatures and simple maintenance-free operation. This innovative technology has the potential to replace all those light sources that are based on discharge lamps and are currently being used in a wide variety of applications.

New products from entertainment expert Claypaky and ADB

As part of the Osram family, Claypaky is presenting a large number of spotlights at Prolight + Sound 2017 and two special new products: AXCOR Profile 900, the first Claypaky spotlight to use a LED light source instead of a traditional discharge lamp, and two new K-EYE HCR wash-lights, which finally allows lighting designers to produce every color, every nuance and every shade with satisfactory quality.

ADB, the Osram brand specializing in theatres and TV studios, is focusing on its KLEMANTIS, a LED cyclorama system which combines RGB with Red, Green, Blue, Cyan, Lime and Amber, as well as on its IMAGO and IMAGO WING, a redesigned control desk with new functions.
