Osram Opto Semiconductors successfully held a breaking ground ceremony for Wuxi factory's phase two expansion project in the Wuxi High-Tech Industrial Development Zone on August 8th.
Osram's CEO Aldo Kamper, the general manager of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors (China) Co., Ltd Lim Khoon Teck, and the officials of the Wuxi City Government attended the ceremony.
Osram officially began the operation of its Wuxi plant in 2014. This plant is Osram's first LED back-end factory in China and its second LED back-end plant globally. As the demand for Osram's LED products kept soaring in the global market, Osram started the 2nd phase of Wuxi factory’s expansion project. This project will at least double the existing capacity and possibly create over 2000 job vacancies.

Mr. Teck introduced, this project is scheduled to start in early 2019. The second phase of the project will further enhance Osram's leading position in China's LED market as well as boost the local economy in Wuxi.
Mr. Kamper expressed that the Wuxi factory is one critical base of Osram where it implements its strategic investments. It also bridges the Germany-based company to the lighting market in China through localization. The expansion not only shows Osram’s determination of pursuing better quality and larger capacity but also further secures Osram's leading position in the global LED market.
For Osram, Asia has been an enormous market. Its current market scale has surpassed USD 13 billion at a CAGR of 10% per year. As a technology pioneer, Osram aims to transcend. Opportunities in the Asian LED market are expected to benefit both Osram and the Wuxi city, an important manufacturing center in the Asia-Pacific region.
