Tesla LED Light Sources Supplier to be Listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange

Taiwan-based auto lamp modules and components manufacturer Excellence Optoelectronics (EOI) on April 10 announced to go public on the Taiwan Stock Exchange on May 9.

Excellence Optoelectronics is one of the Taiwanese companies that started early the manufacturing of traffic lights and street lamps. Since 2000, the company began the development, manufacturing, and distribution of LED automotive lamp components and modules. Over the past 17 years, it has accumulated experiences working with over 40 automakers through automotive lighting suppliers, such as  Flex-N-Gate, Hella, and Magna.

According to the breakdown of Excellence Opto’s consolidated revenue in 2017 by region, 60% of the revenue was from North America, 23% from China, and 18% other Asian countries. As for that of its 1Q18 revenue, North America took up to 76%, China 14%, and 9% for other Asian countries.

While developing its ODM/OEM businesses and promoting its brand name EOI, Excellence Opto produced products earning 26 patents (along with 19 pending applications) and certified by major auto lamp manufacturers in Taiwan, China, Germany, and the United States.

In particular, its new Flexible Uniflex rear lamp module is installed on the Tesla Model 3. The company also supplies LED light sources for the center high-mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) of the Model 3.

The company planned to establish an automated production base in the US and has already bought a site in Michigan at the beginning of 2018. It will implement a series of new strategies targeting the US automotive lighting market to sidestep operational challenges caused by currency fluctuation and to maximize profits under Trump’s policies for tax cuts, revealed Fanny Huang, Chairman and President  of Excellence Optoelectronics. 

The company’s 1Q 2018 revenue stood at NTD 824 million (USD 28.1 million), up 46.2% YoY. Seeing the growth of the automotive lighting industry, Excellence Opto expects solid performances for the coming years.

According to the latest report from LEDinside, 8.57 million passenger vehicles were shipped globally in 2017. The number will increase to 103.3 million by 2025, with 30% of the cars to be manufactured by Chinese firms. The penetration of LED rear lights will also grow by 7% from 72% in 2017 to 79% in 2020.
