LED Mask Changes Color to Show the Air Quality

A project named UnMast City was initiated by NGOs and supported by professionals in National Health Service in England to fight against the air pollution in London. The project highlights the toxic air crisis by designing a customized LED light mask which changes color to indicate the air quality.

The LED light respirator was designed by a cyclist, Greg McNevin, with sensors collecting data and change color according to the levels of pollution. The green light means good air quality with 0-12 micrograms of PM2.5 per cubic meter while yellow color represents moderate risk with 12.1 to 35.4 micrograms. An orange light stand for unhealthy air at PM2.5 between 35.5 to 55.4 micrograms and red warns bad air that is harmful for people from 55.5 micrograms per cubic meter and above.

The sensors of the LED respirator work with the AirBeam monitoring system and a bluetooth-connected app linked to a website called AirCasting which is a platform for people to record and map health and environment data.
