Opto Tech Expands Capacities for Sensing Components and Accelerates Developments in IR/UV LED

Taiwanese LED chip maker Opto Tech has reported a steady growth of 8% YoY in the second season of 2018 and expects a better performance in the second half of the year with its new capacity completed.

The major contribution to the revenue of Opto Tech came from sensing components, including Photo transistor, Zener diode and Photo diode, which account for 48 percent of its total income. With the increasing orders for sensing components, Opto Tech has expanded its capacity by 10 percent by the end of last year and has equipped the facilities in Q2. The new capacity will begin its contribution by Q3 with the driving forces from wearable applications, automotive products and medical facilities.

The contribution of LED has dropped to about 30 percent with decreasing backlight applications. Opto Tech has shifted the focus to niche markets of IR LED, UV LED and automotive applications with IR LED accounting 60 percent of its LED products. The company also reported that its low power VCESL products have been developed and verified. The price competition between Chinese LED firms has less impact on Opto Tech as the company continues to improve its products portfolio.
