Former BMW Digital Units Head Dieter May to be CEO of Osram Opto Semiconductors

Osram has continued its company profile sharpening and appointed Dieter May, who has served as Senior Vice President of the Digital Services and Business Models unit for the BMW Group, as the new CEO of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors business unit.

May will begin its position to lead the LED division of Osram since May 1, 2019, taking over the management from Aldo Kamper, the previous CEO of Osarm Opto Semiconductors who became CEO of Germany’s Leoni AG after he left Osram in August 2018.

The intensive experiences of May in cloud based digital consumer services, digital transformation and semiconductor business go in line with Osram’s new positioning as a high-tech company.

Since 2014, May as Senior Vice President has built the Digital Services and Business Models unit for the BMW Group.

After the announcement of its declined business performance in fiscal 1Q19 in the beginning of February, Osram has been announcing one action after another. The company confirmed the rumor of the possible buyout from private equities Bain Capital and Carlyle Group; then, it revealed its investment in a German IoT company. Just a day later, Osram named its new CEO for Opto Semiconductors which will become effective in May.
