Sleep Well with Circadian Lighting while Travelling

Do you have difficulty falling asleep when traveling away from home? Circadian lighting solution might help to tackle the problem.

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has conducted a global survey and revealed that about 80 percent of travelers saying they have trouble sleeping during their trip. To help travelers combat a restless night away from home, IHG has partnered with Healthe by Lighting Science to pilot the use of circadian lighting.

Crowne Plaza Atlanta Airport will be the first IHG property to install the JOURNI ™ Mobile Task Light in guest rooms. JOURNI provides engineered spectrums designed for circadian regulation, which is suitable for travelers who need to work at different times.

With Healthe’s patented GoodDay ® and GoodNight ® spectrum technologies, JOURNI allows access to the alertness and focus-enhancing spectrum during the day, and then easily change to the warm, sleep-enhancing spectrum at night. This versatile, dual-spectrum luminaire brings energy-efficient, circadian lighting right to hotel rooms. Ultimately, JOURNI also helps to regulate the body’s circadian rhythm or 24-hour internal body clock which affects important biological functions such as sleep, hormone levels, body temperature and metabolism.

Dr. Steven W. Lockley, Associate Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, and advisor to Healthe® said, "It's no secret that travelling can be challenging for our health, particularly when it comes to maintaining our normal sleep patterns. Light is the major environmental time cue that resets the circadian clock in our brains each day, which is easily thrown off when travelling."
