Chipone Video Wall Driver IC Sales and Shipment Rockets in 2019

Chipone Technology is a semiconductor chip design house in China. Its products include touch sensor ICs, fingerprint recognition ICs, video wall (display) driver ICs, and power management ICs. LEDinside has an honor to interview Charles Lin, Vice President of Chipone Technology, whose shipment ranks the top one in video wall (display) driver ICs to share the product roadmap and business strategy in video wall (display) ICs for 2019-2020.

In 2019, total revenue of Chipone Technology came to RMB 1.5 billion (US$ 213.13 million). Amongst, LED driver ICs distributed RMB 800 million (US$ 113.67 million) and its shipment achieved 3200KK. Compared its 2018 revenue of RMB 600 million (US$ 85.25 million), there was a significant on-year growth of 34% in 2019. Among products in 2019, driver ICs with PWM function accounted for more than 65%.

Seeing 2020, compared to the previous first quarters, P2-P2.5 video wall is in great demand. Lin said that although video wall manufacturers have been rushing to place orders for securing inventory due to the uncertainty caused by epidemics. It is clear to see that the demand for LED video walls in the international market will indeed increase considerably in 2020.

Chipone Technology showcased ICND2065 (common anode) and ICND2069 (common cathode) used 16 channels and 64 line scans at ISE 2020. For video wall customers, the number of driver ICs is reduced and the heat dissipation capability is greatly improved. Moreover, the resolution is maintained with grayscale 14 bits and high refresh rate. This time, Chipone emphasized the combination of HDMI control chip and 6.5K high-level PWM driver IC, in order to provide video wall manufacturers with excellent display effects, while simplifying the entire system and enhancing stability. In 2020, Chipone will use the common-anode / common-cathode and high line scans up to 64-line scans, such as ICND2065 / 2069, as its main promotion products. Its advantage is that it is easier to design PCB line width.

Product 1: 81-inch FHD resolution LED TV. The entire screen uses 37 HDMI control chips and 6.5K high-level PWM driver IC. While showing excellent display effects, the entire system is more simplified and more stable. The pixel pitch is P0.9375, using ICND2065 (common anode) and ICND 6602.

Product 2: 35-inch digital signage. HDMI control chip combined with 4G / wifi wireless transmission broadcast system, providing the overall solution. The pixel pitch is P1.95, using ICND2153 (common anode) and ICND 6602.

Product 3: Mini LED display cabinet. The HDMI control chip is directly placed on the LED light board, which can provide the HDMI standard interface and the thinnest solution. The pixel pitch is P0.78, using ICND2069 (common cathode) and ICND 6602.

Product 4: COB is one of the ultimate solutions for Mini / Micro LED in the future. At present, mainstream COB manufacturers in the industry have adopted Chipone’s COB driver IC solutions. Chipone has also won customers' trust with its excellent quality and stable performance. The pixel pitch is P0.9375, using ICND2069 (common cathode), 16 channels and 64-line scanning. For video wall customers, the number of driver ICs is reduced and the heat dissipation capability is greatly improved. Moreover, the resolution is maintained with grayscale 14 bits and high refresh rate.

With the increased share of the China's market, Chipone Technology's development strategy in 2020 will be directed to international customers. The most notable case is that ICND2076 uses 48 channels and 64 line scans. It has entered the international brand manufacturers' products in 4Q19. In addition, it can be seen that high-end manufacturers have used ICND2055 in 2019 continually.
