As the pandemic in India is still severe, DMRC is taking several methods aiming to ensure safety for commuters. One of the approach is to deploy UV disinfection technology for sanitizing common area touch points. It is likely that the disinfection will be based on conventional UV mercury lamp instead of UV LEDs as the cost for using UV LEDs for large area disinfection is still higher comparing to mercury lamps.
UV light disinfection has been commonly adopted for public transportation system including buses, subways, or even airplanes. Subway cars and buses in New York City, Heathrow Airport, United Airlines and more have adopted the technology for surface disinfection.
