According to Tianyancha.com, a China-based business information platform, automaker NIO’s patent “AR glasses and systems and approaches to displaying vehicle information for the glasses” has been granted.

The patent comprises three AR glasses components, namely the camera, processing module, and display lens. The camera captures the plane positions of at least some of the multiple optical emitters installed in a vehicle in real time. The processing module offers AR images including those related to vehicle information. The glasses also come with a lens reproducing images from the processing module.

Specifically, the module confirms the initial display position of target information and instantly adjusts it according to changes in the emitters’ plane positions. In this way, relative positions between projected information and physical objects will be consistent. Based on IR positioning, the invention helps car systems display vehicle information consistently with fewer calculations required.

Last year, NIO rolled its first vehicle-mount AR glasses, the NIO Air AR Glasses, featuring vibration resistance. With algorithms co-developed by NIO and Nreal, the AR eyewear helps reduce motion sickness for its wearers. (Source: Sina VR)
