Tomato growers embrace full LED lighting

News Source:

Illuminated tomato cultivation has largely switched to LED lighting. Certainly growing under Full LED has its challenges. That is why this winter a group of 27 growers and cultivation managers of tomato farms, will meet every four weeks to gain and exchange knowledge, shares Annelies Hooijmans on Kas als Energiebron.

The lack of radiant heat under LED compared to the sun or SON-T is one of the reasons for the big differences in approach to cultivation. Furthermore, the options in the spectrum, plant power, and the choice of dimming give many options and therefore many questions.

The LED tomato learning group met for the first time at the end of October and discussed at length the start of cultivation on the participating farms. The way of generatively putting the crop away at the beginning of cultivation was a recurring point in this meeting.

The participants are positive about the set-up of the learning group and the extensive participation of tomato growers from across the country.

The Led Learning Group is supervised by Glastuinbouw Nederland and co-funded by Kas als Energiebron, an innovation program of LVVN and Glastuinbouw Nederland.
