A video art installation comprising 254 square metres of 2.9mm pixel pitch LED has been unveiled near the Taipei 101 skyscraper in Taiwan.
Taipei Lumitree features a 360° LED tree and a 10m-high LED wall. The walls have a transparency rate of more than 75%.
The installation is the first signage project in Asia from New York-based DOOH consultancy Tiger Party, and has been constructed in partnership with Kaiyue Construction.
For the launch of Taipei Lumitree, Tiger Party has teamed up with global artistic community HUG to showcase the work of 12 artists.
Taipei Lumitree is currently accepting submissions for its public art programme, City Lullaby, inviting creators to enrich the cityscape.
Steven Lin, chairman of Kaiyue Construction, said: "Taipei Lumitree is an innovative and unique landmark project. Events like Nuit Blanche Taipei 24' have shown how this venue can transform urban spaces and provide a platform for creative engagement.”
Tiger Party manages some of the most famous billboard in Times Square and oversees the ball drop every New Year's Eve.
The company's chief executive, Rafale Chang, said: "We are thrilled to bring the technology and commercial model of New York's Times Square to Taiwan.
"Collaborating with Taiwan's exceptional creative teams in an international city like Taipei, we aim to create an unprecedented visual feast for the city, filled with endless creativity and energy that will attract crowds."
Randi Zuckerberg, founder and chief executive of HUG, said: "It is an honour to collaborate with Tiger Party, who are industry leaders at the intersection of art and advertising, to bring new art and artists to a world cultural centre like Taipei through the Taipei Lumitree Project."
