[News] Samsung’s First Android XR Headset ‘Moohan’ Reportedly Set for Late October Launch

News Source:

More details about Samsung’s first XR device have surfaced. Until now known as ‘Project Moohan,’ the device reportedly marks the tech giant’s first Android-based XR headset, developed in partnership with Google and Qualcomm. According to the Chosun Daily, the new device is slated for release at the end of this month.

Sources cited by the report suggest that the XR headset will hit the market on October 22, with pre-order notifications open from October 15 to 21, a week ahead of the official launch.

Notably, as per fnnews, ahead of the official launch, the device will be available for hands-on preview. Starting October 20, the Galaxy XR will be showcased at seven Samsung Stores across the country, the report adds.

Though most details remain unconfirmed, the Chosun Daily report, citing Roh Tae-moon, acting head of Samsung Electronics’ Device eXperience (DX) Division, notes that it “delivers light weight, comfortable wear, and advanced user experiences through voice control.”

As XR Today reported in August, Moohan is noticeably lighter than Apple’s 600-gram Vision Pro, featuring a rigid strap with a tightening dial instead of Apple’s soft strap design.

In terms of the price tag, fnnews reveals the product is expected to carry a retail price in the high ₩2 million range (around $2,000), roughly ₩2 million cheaper than Apple’s Vision Pro (~$3,499 / ₩4.9 million).

According to XR Today, early demos suggest Moohan boasts micro-OLED displays with an eye-popping 3,000 DPI, far surpassing the Meta Quest 3’s 1,200 DPI. In addition, the device reportedly runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 and leverages Google’s Android XR OS with integrated Gemini AI for enhanced user experiences.

While Samsung races ahead with its XR headset, Apple appears to be taking a different route. Bloomberg reports that the Cupertino giant is pausing development of a lower-cost Vision Pro to focus on smart glasses that could rival Meta.

The delayed N100, originally slated for a 2027 launch with a lighter, cheaper design than the current Vision Pro, is now taking a backseat as Apple redirects resources to two smart glasses projects, the report notes.
