Recently, the addition of the "Global and China OLED Market Report, 2007-2012" report is offered, as the development trends of the next generation display technology industry are concerned, OLEDs are still a highly important sector of the market.
The global OLED production capacity is mainly distributed across Korea, Japan and China Taiwan, with the shipments of the top five manufacturers accounting for 98.7% of the global total.
OLED is mainly applied in mobile phone sub-screen and MP3 players, and the shipment for both of these applications was 53.59 million and 25.22 million respectively in 2007. These applications together account for 85% of the total shipment amount. Moreover, with the maturity of OLED technology, more OLED applications are expected to drive the industry to develop rapidly. A result of this trend is seen in the movement of OLED technology towards AMOLED. For example, Samsung had expanded its AMOLED production capacity, while LG has turned to AMOLED from PMOLED.
China is one of the key mobile phone and MP3 manufacturing countries in the world, with a great demand for OLEDs. However, China still relies on OLED imports. The global OLED industry is still in its initial stage, with OLED technologies highly self-protected. Compared with TFT--LCD, OLED has a relatively simple production process and less investment, is about US$10 million, which is only 1/10 of TFT--LCD.
In China, more and more potential investors from the home appliance, communications and LCD sectors are monitoring the development of the OLED market. So far China has over 30 OLED manufacturers with the OLED production line of Beijing Visionox Technology Co., Ltd being put into mass production in the second half of 2008.
