Unity Opto Expected to Post Record Monthly Revenues

Owing to increasing LED backlight module shipments, Unity Opto Technology Co., a Taiwan-based LED chipmaker, expects to continue to post record high revenue in July, the Taiwan Economic News reports.

According to Unity Opto chairman C.H. Wu, business of LED backlight for panels accounts for 55% of the company’s total revenue. With flooding orders, Wu said, Unity Opto’s revenues in July, August, and September are expected to continue to hit record highs.

Unity Opto scored NT$964 million (US$29.66 million) in second-quarter revenue, up 84% quarter-on-quarter. And the company’s third-quarter result is estimated to continue rising by at least 25% quarter-on-quarter given the strong demand for LED backlight modules.

Wu also said the company would gradually ramp up the shipment ratio of LEDs for lighting applications. Currently, these products account for about 25% of Unity Opto’s revenue, compared to 10% earlier this year, and the percentage is expected to grow.
