Promoting the LED lighting projects in China: Dr. Jun Ruan
Dr. Jun Ruan, a well-recognized figure in the LED industry in China, serves as Vice Secretary of China Solid State Lighting Alliance and Deputy Director of National Solid State Lighting Program Office. Dr. Ruan's main task includes: participating in the coordination of China’s central and local government’s solid state lighting research program, promoting the application of LED lighting, establishing LED lighting standards, developing local intellectual property in China, and building channels of international collaboration.

Dr. Ruan plays a key role in the advancement of the LED industry standards, and the highly recognized "Ten thousand LED lights in ten cities" project is a crucial part of the LED construction project, where 60% of LED components will be produced by local Chinese manufacturers. This project will save an estimate of 220 million kilowatt-hours per year. In the interim, he is also engaged in coordinating and streamlining the overall procedure to ensure that the standards and the documentation of this project progress as expected, and ultimately accomplish the goal of installing LED streetlights in China’s major cities. Furthermore, in addition to implementing LED street lights in 21 major cities, this project also involves other lighting applications in area such as tunnels, railway platforms, buses, underground parking lots, and gas stations. Through the promotion of this project, it will help boost the demand for LED lighting in the transport sector, thereby increasing the in-house production of LED components while improving manufacturing capacity, enhance public recognition, and promoting the development of the LED industry.

In addition to drafting the standard for LED lights, Dr Ruan also places much emphasis on the development of intellectual property rights, with specific focus in LED applications including: LED controls, LED drivers and LED optical designs, which are all areas of expertise among cross-strait manufacturers.
