[News] ams OSRAM Files Patent Infringement Complaint Against Spider Farmer – Focus on Protecting Horticulture LED Innovations

News Source:

ams OSRAM, a global leader in intelligent sensor and emitter technologies, has filed a patent infringement complaint in the United States against Spider Farmer, a manufacturer of indoor farming luminaires, and has also taken further action based on European and German patents. The complaint alleges the unauthorized use of proprietary ams OSRAM LED technology in certain horticultural lighting systems.

The case centers on patents relating to ams OSRAM’s advanced hyper-red (660 nm) LED architecture – a critical component of high-performance lighting solutions for controlled environment agriculture. Unlike the prior case ams OSRAM filed in the spring of this year, this complaint involves a different luminaire maker selling a different luminaire with a different LED model, underscoring the presence of multiple suppliers around the world selling products that do not meet essential IP compliance standards.

“This is not just about enforcing patents – it’s about protecting the integrity of our innovation ecosystem,” said Aldo Kamper, CEO of ams OSRAM. “We have made significant investments to develop technologies that deliver measurable benefits in agricultural efficiency. It is our responsibility to defend these innovations and ensure fair competition.”

ams OSRAM’s hyper-red technology delivers industry-leading photon efficacy and spectral precision tailored to plant growth applications. The company continues to actively monitor the market and is prepared to take further legal steps as necessary to safeguard its intellectual property and the value it provides to customers and partners.

“Technology leadership must be matched by IP integrity,” Kamper emphasized. “We will remain vigilant and take decisive action whenever our intellectual property is compromised – not only for our own sake, but for the benefit of a transparent and trustworthy industry landscape.”

ams OSRAM emphasizes that all companies in the horticultural lighting value chain are responsible for ensuring the IP compliance of the LED components they use. The company encourages growers to assess their supply chains and engage with fixture suppliers about component origins. Using LEDs from ams OSRAM ensures growers face no IP-related concerns. Additionally, the company’s co-branding programs signal trusted partnerships and offer a clear indication of IP-safe and compliant LED solutions. These programs reflect trusted collaborations with selected partners and serve as a mark of quality and legal assurance. Through ongoing education and collaboration, ams OSRAM remains committed to supporting a secure, transparent, and IP-compliant horticultural lighting ecosystem.
