Ennostar, a leading vertically integrated optoelectronic semiconductor company, will showcase its latest Micro LED optical communication innovations at Touch Taiwan 2026, in collaboration with AUO Corporation and Tyntek Corporation. In addition, Ennostar will present its high-speed Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser (VCSEL) solutions and Continuous-Wave Distributed Feedback Laser Diodes (CW-DFB LD) for datacom, delivering a comprehensive portfolio to address diverse high-speed interconnect requirements across AI data centers.
Leveraging Group Synergy: Micro LED for Short-Range AI Interconnects
As a pioneer in Micro LED technology and mass production, Ennostar is leveraging its group resources to expand into AI optical communication applications. The Micro LED optical communication solution showcased at the exhibition integrates Ennostar’s GaN-based Micro LED light source with Tyntek’s Micro Photodetector (Micro PD), co-designed within AUO’s Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) module.
Targeting ultra-short-reach high-speed interconnects within 10 meters, the solution is well-suited for applications such as Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) and Active Optical Cables (AOC). Compared to conventional optical source solutions, Micro LED offers several key advantages, including high thermal stability (up to 125°C), long operational lifetime (over 30,000 hours), and ultra-low power consumption (below 1 pJ/Bit). These characteristics significantly reduce power consumption and cooling requirements, making the technology highly promising for high-density, energy-efficient AI data center environments.
Ennostar noted that while Micro LED has historically been used in display technologies, its core value in optical communication lies in its high-speed modulation capability and superior energy efficiency. Unlike display applications that prioritize brightness and uniformity, optical communication focuses on bandwidth, modulation speed, and energy efficiency per bit. Ennostar has successfully demonstrated Micro LED performance at 1.25 Gbps per channel and will continue to enhance modulation speed and reliability through ongoing co-development with system partners.
Three Core Optical Technologies Enabling a Complete AI Interconnect Platform
\In addition to Micro LED, Ennostar has strategically developed two other key optical source technologies: Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers (VCSEL) and Indium Phosphide (InP)-based Continuous-Wave Distributed Feedback Laser Diodes (CW-DFB LD).
VCSEL solutions have become the mainstream optical source for short-reach applications within 100 meters, including interconnects between AI servers and rack-to-rack communication in data centers. In addition to its capabilities in device development and volume manufacturing, Ennostar is collaborating with Formerica Optoelectronics Inc. to showcase a 100G QSFP28 SR4 optical transceiver module, demonstrating its capability to extend from optical sources to module-level integration.
For longer transmission distances, InP-based CW-DFB laser diodes offer single-wavelength and high-output power characteristics, making them suitable for transmission up to 2,000 meters.
Leveraging its III-V semiconductor expertise, Ennostar integrates Micro LED, VCSEL, and CW-DFB LD technologies to establish a comprehensive optical source platform that addresses AI interconnect requirements across different transmission distances.
Ennostar has also been invited to present at the Touch Taiwan 2026 CPO Technology Forum, where it will share the latest developments and application trends of Micro LED in optical communication. The presentation will provide insights into key technical challenges and emerging opportunities driven by the rapid growth of AI data transmission requirements. During the exhibition, Ennostar will also host a series of on-site technical sessions, introducing the roles and advantages of Micro LED, VCSEL, and CW-DFB laser technologies across different transmission distances.
Dr. Andrew Tsai, Associate Vice President of the Advanced R&D Center at Ennostar Corporation, stated: “Driven by the rapid evolution of AI computing architectures, data transmission demand is growing exponentially. Ennostar has strategically deployed three core optical source technologies to precisely address communication challenges across different transmission distances. Our collaboration with AUO and Tyntek not only validates the strong potential of Micro LED in optical communication but also demonstrates that ecosystem collaboration is essential to accelerating the commercialization of next-generation technologies.”
