【2019 TILS】LED Lighting Moves to Smart and Professional Applications

Taiwan International Lighting Show kicked off on May 8th in Taipei with the theme “Smart Design, Enlightening Life.” The event welcomes its 10th anniversary with more than hundred exhibitors showcasing their innovative LED lighting applications. As LEDs are commonly applied in general lighting, lighting companies have turned their focus to professional lighting, smart lighting and human centric lighting. By combining adjustable features of LEDs with smart control, LED lighting can be further optimized for advanced applications.

MEAN WELL, the Taiwan-based LED driver provider, presented its new XLG series products. The series is designed with constant power mode which supports full power operation for a wide range of lighting applications. The products are also equipped with protection function which would be activated when input power is too low for maintaining reliability of lighting fixture under environments with unstable power supply.

The company launched a joint marketing campaign “Power by MEAN WELL” in 2018. After a year of operation, MEAN WELL invited its partner lighting companies including Shinyu, EPOCH, Neotroni Lighting and others to share their experiences cooperating with MEAN WELL. The power supply company connects other Taiwanese lighting manufacturers to demonstrate their expertise in professional LED lighting with high quality lighting products.

Acer Being Communication, a subsidiary of Acer, joined the event for the first time with its focus on smart city applications. The company showcased solar powered smart LED street lighting and smart-lighting-based LED tubes. President of Acer Being Communication, Po Po, explained that smart street light is a crucial infrastructure for smart city development. For extended functions that could be added in the further, the structure of smart street lights has to be flexible to including functions such as security monitoring, air quality management, people/car tracking analysis and more.

Smart LED tube is another highlight of Acer’s exhibits. The company noted that switching to LED tube is easy and without high cost. With higher frequency of use, indoor lighting could actually save more energy with brightness control.

LED lighting fixtures designer Shinyu exhibited a product portfolio of anti-explosive LED luminaires, targeting applications for industry engineering, commercial and special lighting. The company provides LED fixtures with high heat-dissipating ability, low light decay and customized designs, offering solutions for diverse applications.

ITRI also presented several lighting innovations including circadian lighting lamp, OLED automotive tail light and LiFi technology with cooperation with various LED and OLED manufacturers. ITRI has successfully produced OLED lighting materials in volume and developed an OLED lighting fixture with modular system.

In addition, ITRI has adopted circadian LED lighting system in a senior care center in Taiwan. By deploying adjusted lighting formula for different environment and users, the circadian lighting system has significantly improved the well-being of the elderlies as well as the caregivers in the center.
