Intel on March 13 announced that the company will purchase Mobileye, a global provider of advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). This deal is worth US$15.3 billion and is another indication that major semiconductor manufacturers are aggressively jockeying for a favorable position in the fast growing automotive electronics market. TrendForce states that after the merger, Intel will be able to combine its hardware products such as high-performance computing chips and IoT solutions with Mobileye’s image processing algorithms for autonomous driving systems.

Intel has jumped aboard the wearable device bandwagon with the launch of a luxury jeweled smart bracelet. "My Intelligent Communication Accessory," or known as MICA will be equipped with a curved sapphire glass display, as well as with semi-precious stones, pearls, and even wet snake skin. The company has not released the features or the pricing of the bracelet, but the launch date is expected to take place during the upcoming holiday season in 2014. On June 25, Intel demonstrated a research project in San Francisco, which can help reducing traffic accidents. Intel and Taiwan University are jointly developing this project to provide better communication between the vehicles, such as using LED stoplight. The researchers use a laptop to adjust the tail lights, so it can receive and display vehicle status data. Intel demonstrates it with two motorcycles, which is everywhere on the streets of Taiwan.
