Kicking off on 9 June, the 22nd edition of the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (GILE) welcomed visitors for the four-day fair during which key industry players had the chance to explore the convergent future of the lighting industry. The fair maintained its position as an influential and comprehensive lighting and LED event by receiving strong industry support – support that was demonstrated by its largest visitor figures in recent years. The fair welcomed 156,898 visitors (2016: 145,080) – an increase of over 8% from last year’s exhibition – from 134 countries and regions. The top 10 overseas visitors were from Hong Kong, India, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, US, Thailand, Russia, Malaysia and Australia.

HC Semitek announced recently that it would be investing in total RMB 6 billion (US $915,625) in the construction of a new LED epiwafer, chip and production line in Yiwu Industrial Park, according to a report from Chinese-language China Securities.

Following the spin-off of Osram from Siemens, global lighting giant Philips recently announced it would split off its lighting business into a stand-alone company on September 23. That move follows an announcement in June that Philips would combine Lumileds, its LED components business and automotive lighting business into a separate company.

During an interview with LEDinside, BYD Marketing Director Xiao Zhiyong explained the input and output ratio for the company’s LED investment, and discussed the company’s current situation and future developments. 

December total revenue for Taiwanese market listed LED manufacturers dipped 0.1% to NT $10.6 billion (US $350.7 million). Revenue for Taiwanese LED chip manufacturers reached NT $3.98 billion (+0.8% MoM) and NT %6.67 billion for Taiwanese package manufacturers, a slight decline of 0.9% MoM.
