Philips Lighting announces that it has repurchased 2.8 million of its shares for an aggregate amount of approximately EUR 90 million.

Philips Lighting announces that it intends to repurchase 2.8 million of its ordinary shares from its largest shareholder Royal Philips. 

PSV became the first Eredivisie club in the Netherlands to kick off under ground-breaking LED lighting at the Philips Stadium on Saturday evening. The Eindhoven-based national champions played a match against Excelsior from Rotterdam under the innovative LED pitch lighting supplied by their main sponsor, Royal Philips, the global leader in lighting. To mark the official inauguration of the LED pitch lighting, players and fans were treated to a unique light show. The Philips Stadium is the first Eredivisie stadium in the Netherlands to add a whole new dimension to the match experience in the stadium by installing white LED pitch lighting.

Royal Philips has provided a gift of Philips LED solar powered lighting to the village of Thanh Son in Vietnam. The donation, which is improving the lives of villagers who have been in darkness for 30 years, is part of the ‘Philips Gift of Light’ - an internal engagement initiative in which Philips employees nominated and voted for projects around the world deserving of a Philips gift of light. During the coming months, projects will be implemented by Philips employees in 17 countries.

Royal Philips  today announced that it will start the process to combine its Lumileds (LED components) and Automotive lighting businesses into a stand-alone company within the Philips Group. Philips will explore strategic options to attract capital from third party investors for this business. Philips intends to remain a shareholder and customer of the new company, and will continue the existing innovation collaboration.

The façades of five stadiums will be lit high lighting the architecture of these great landmarks, while the pitch lighting at five out of 12 stadiums will ensure that TV watchers can see every moment, emotion and detail of the beautiful game. 

 Royal Philips announced the signing of its 400th licensee - Dotlux GmbH - to its LED Luminaires and Retrofit Bulbs Licensing Program, a growth of 100 licensees since May last year. Philips is committed to fostering LED industry growth and creating a level playing field by giving companies access to its wide portfolio of patented LED system technologies and solutions. By making available more than 210 inventions (comprising over 1200 granted patents), Philips aims to open up new business opportunities and possibilities for companies globally.
