China’s New Lighting Standards Addresses Blue-light Hazards

One of the markedly visible changes to China’s latest lighting standard GB7000.1-2015, which addresses luminaires general test requirements, is the introduction of blue-light hazard regulations, stated the Machinery and Electrical Products Testing Center under Shanghai’s Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.

SQI LED Blue-light Hazard Report Recommendations for Chinese LED Industry

In an earlier report, Shanghai Institute of Quality Inspection and Technical Research (SQI) tests conducted on 27 LED luminaires showed most were safe to use and had low blue-light hazards. SQI LED Blue-Light Hazard Tests Results Busts CCTV Report Claims

A recent report by mainstream Chinese media CCTV revealing “LEDs without diffusers can cause blindness within 10 seconds” in a TV program generated much interest in China. However, studies cited in the report have been taken out of context, according to a Chinese LED test laboratory report.
