Officials from the Maharashtra state located in western-central India has announced plans of replacing CFL streetlights in 43,665 villages with LEDs, reported Moneycontrol.com.

San Jose, the third largest city in California, U.S. has started installing new LED streetlights throughout December, according to a report by San Jose Mercury News.

India’s Union ministry of urban development has requested the country’s state governments to fully replace to LED streetlights, an India Times report cited ELCOMA India saying.

Huayue Electronics (Huayue), a manufacturer and international distributor of LED lighting products announced that Slovenia’s second largest city Maribor intends to use greener LED streetlights. The Chinese manufacturer has submitted a proposal through wholly-owned subsidiary, Changzhou Huayue Electronics, to retrofit the city streetlights is still under review.

New Zealand’s Wellington City Council is planning to retrofit 18,000 streetlights with smart LED streetlights, according to a recent report by Radio New Zealand News.

Over the past week, rising streetlight costs have led to several UK counties announcements of overhauling inefficient streetlights with more energy efficient LED streetlights. The total number of streetlights to be retrofitted by two boroughs and one council is expected to reach 50,420.
