Sapphire screens were missing on Apple’s latest smartphone again. Apple fans waited in eager anticipation in front of their computer monitors during the twilight hours of Sept. 10, Beijing time, just to catch a glimpse of the new products at the annual fall product launch event.

iFixit recent teardown of iPod touch 6 revealed the absence of sapphire covered lens, reported Apple Insider.

Rubicon Technology, a leading provider of sapphire substrates and products to the LED, semiconductor and optical markets, today announced that it will be showcasing the largest sapphire window ever produced at the SPIE Defense, Security and Sensing 2015 exhibition from April 20-24 at the Baltimore Convention Center in booth #1108. Very large, thick sapphire windows are in demand for defense, aerospace and optical applications.

There are dozens of manufacturers in the global sapphire manufacturing market, but only tier one manufacturers are capable of supplying good quality sapphire ingots including Kyocera, Namiki, Monocrystal, DK AZTEC, USIO, Harbin Aurora Optoelectronics and Silan Opto. Leading sapphire manufacturers have launched production expansion plans to meet LED and non-LED market demands.
